Food Science and Nutrition is one of the most applied and interdisciplinary subject in our present educational system concerns with the field of science. It gives main emphasis on food, nutrition, diet, food preservation, product development, food quality analysis, food safety and Quality. Since inception, the department offers programmes with the focus to produce quality human resources with relevant knowledge, skills and values to bring holistic health in the community, national as a whole.

To become a centre of excellence in development and dissemination of creative and innovative knowledge in the field of food science and nutrition.

  • Provide holistic education in food science and nutrition to nurture their creativity and innovation.

Programmes Offered | M.Sc. Food Science and Nutrition

Duration: 2 years full time postgraduate program with four semesters

UG Degree in Botany/Zoology/Biochemistry/B.Sc. Home Science/Family & Community Science/Nutrition & Dietetics/Food Science & Quality Control/Food Science & Nutrition/ Nutrition/Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics with Chemistry/ Food Service Mgt. & Dietetics/ Microbiology/B.Voc. Food Processing/P.G. Diploma in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics/Biochemistry at ancillary level/Biotech/Chem & Biology/Food Nutrition & Dietetics

Applications are invited from interested and eligible candidates for the post of Research Assistant for a project funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.

Details are as follows:

Project Entitled: Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana Skill Training Programmes- Impact Analysis on Socio-economic and Demand Supply Characteristics: A study of four southern districts of Tamil Nadu


Project Director: Dr. A. Swarnalatha, Head, Dept. of Food Science and Nutrition

Duration: 6 months Essential Qualification: Post graduate in social science discipline (55% minimum) with NET /M.Phil/ Ph.D


Desired Skills:
1. Prior experience in survey, report writing and data analysis
2. Knowledge of MS Office and SPSS
3. Project-related documentation and administrative work
4. Exposure in field work and must be ready to travel
