Biochemistry is the branch of the life sciences devoted to understanding the mechanisms by which living organisms carry out their many functions in complete, molecular detail. It is inherently interdisciplinary in nature and fundamental to every other branch of the life and biomedical sciences.

  • Dr. Pratheesh P.T. Head of the department was Awarded with “Best Young Scientist Award-2020” for his research contributions in molecular biology, by Novel research academy, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, India on 10th November 2020.
  • Dr. Pratheesh PT. Published a Book Chapter in Elsevier Book entitled “New and future developments in microbial biotechnology and bioengineering” Chapter-2 “The contribution of microbial biotechnology to sustainable development in agriculture and allied sectors” May 2020.
  • Dr. Pratheesh, Head of Department was awarded with 2019 WVPA-Boehringer Ingelheim Innovation in Vaccination Award for best avian health scientist by World Veterinary and Poultry Association at Bangkok, Thailand.

BioSpectrum-2020 | Date 12-12-2020

Organized “BioSpectrum-2020” department association inauguration on 12-12-2020. Miss. Pavithra S (III UG) student was elected as association secretary. As a part of inaugural function a webinar was also organized. Dr. Sourabh Chowla, Scientific Officer-E, National Institute of Science Education and Research, (NISER) Bhubaneswar. The topic discussed “The Science of Eating” was very informative to the participants. 50 students and faculty members from biochemistry and FSN departments were benefited. We thank the management and principal for all the support.

Webinar on the topic “Drug Nanocarriers for Cancer Treatment | 15-10-2020

Department organized National Webinar on the topic “Drug Nanocarriers for Cancer Treatment” on 15-10-2020 at 3.00 PM, via online platform. Dr. I. V. Muthu Vijayan Enoch, Associate Professor & Technology Head, Centre for Nanoscience and Genomics, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences was the resource person for the webinar. Students, researchers and faculty members were highly benefited by the webinar.

  • Department of Biochemistry organized a National webinar on “Natural Immunity Boosters” 14-05-2020. Dr. S. Gowri, Professor and Head Department of Biochemistry, Dr. NGP Arts and Science College was the resource person. 150 students and faculties were benefited.
  • Department of Biochemistry organized one-week long awareness campaign about “Covid-19 Outbreak” to all departments of Nehru Arts and Science College. Dr. Pratheesh P T., HOD presented the awareness to staff and students.
  • Awareness campaign about cancer was organized by the department as a part of “World Cancer day celebration” on 4th February 2020.
  • Department of Biochemistry organized awareness campaign about diabetes as a part of “World Diabetes Day” celebration 14th November 2019.

Department of Biochemistry, Nehru Arts and Science College have organized an awareness campaign about Cancer, its causative agents and natural preventive measures on 04-02-2020 as a part of World cancer day 2020. The campaign was inaugurated by Principal NASC, Dr. B Anirudhan. Students and staffs of the college were benefited by the campaign.
