International Web Conference on Food and Nutrition Security for Sustainable Public Health | 22-10-2020

International Web Conference on Food and Nutrition Security for Sustainable Public Health was organized with the aim to bring the researchers, students, faculties working in academic institutions, research laboratories and industries, together to a common platform, where they can interact and exchange information and explore the diversity of food and nutrition security and sustainable public health. On 22nd October 2020, the International web conference was inaugurated by Dr. B. Anirudhan, Principal, Nehru Arts and Science College. Dr. Ray -Yu- Yang, Food System and Nutrition Specialist Food and Fertilizer Technology Centre for Asian and Pacific Region, Taiwan enlighten the participants by deliberating on Think global, act local – Linking local food and health systems to address double burden malnutrition. This session was followed by a sparkling session by an eminent speaker Dr. Venkat Narayanan, Member – US National Academy of Medicine (NAM), Ruth and O.C. Hubert Chair of Global Health, Director, Emory Global Diabetes Research Centre, Atlanta, USA on Public Health Challenges of the 21st Century: The Convergence of Economics, Demography, Environment and Biology.

On 23rd October 2020 Dr. Shweta Khandelwal, Head, Nutrition Research, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), Delhi stimulated the thoughts of participants by her spectacular talk on “Attaining nutrition security for all in India: will it always be a dream or can it be a reality?”. The session was followed by poster and paper presentations by participants in two parallel sessions. We received 33 research papers and 35 poster presentations and 264 registration from various colleges, universities and research institutions from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Maharashtra.

Three best papers and three best posters were awarded with certificates. The Valediction was held on 23rd October 2020, at 3 PM and the chief guest Dr. Anto Cordelia Tanislaus Antony Dhanapal, Assistant Professor, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Perak, Malaysia addressed on “Food Security and Malnutrition – the Global Food Syndemic During COVID -19 Pandemic”. The International web conference was ended with brief report of the conference by Dr. A. Swarnalatha, Associate Professor and Head, & Organising secretary, Dept. of Food Science and Nutrition, Nehru Arts and Science College, Coimbatore.

Programme on Transformation of New Revenue Skills to Rural

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell (UBA) of Nehru Arts and Science College organises Transformation of New Revenue Skills to Rural in join hand with National Service Scheme. This programme is planned with the focus to enhance the skills of rural women to earn a sustainable income for their families during this COVID -19 pandemic period. This programme was inaugurated by Dr. B. Anirudhan, Principal, NASC on 08.10.2020 at Kumarapalayam village, adopted under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan scheme.

Dr. N. Shani, Professor and Head, Dept. of Business Administration, NASC guided the participants with the marketing tips and stimulated the entrepreneurial spirit among the women. Hands on training was given on homemade bak ery products by Dr.T.H. Sukirtha, Director, Centre for Skill Development and Dr. N. Saranaya, Convenor, EDC & PU. Dr. A. Sridevi and Dr. D. Vimalkumar, NSS officers coordinated the programme. Serious of hands on training on various skills are planned under this programme in all the five adopted village under UBA scheme.
