The Department of Biotechnology is a flourishing department that was established in 2004 to impart quality education in the field of Biosciences. It aims to train young students to face the modern world, filled with competition in every stage of their life, with confidence. The curriculum is prepared keeping in mind the technical challenges that the students will have to face while competing globally for various opportunities.

We offer undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral programs in various fields like Biochemistry, Enzymology, Nanotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Immunology, Bioprocess Engineering, etc. The Department has highly experienced faculty with expertise in various disciplines related to Modern Biotechnology. The Department also works with the startup companies with the aim of promoting high quality research and in turn, improve infrastructure, supported by value-added services to enhance the technical know-how of industry-academia interaction.

The Department has initiated an association called CONGLOMERATION OF UPCOMING BIOTECHNOLOGISTS (CUBS) under which Conferences/ Workshops and Symposiums are organized every year at National and International levels. Industrial visits are arranged regularly to give a first-hand experience to the students and prepare them for their future in the industry. Students are benefitted from the projects and summer training programs that are offered by various leading companies. This helps them to decide their future course of action after obtaining their respective degrees. They are well-prepared to face the ever competent work atmospheres in various industries and academic institutions.

The Department is credited with achievements like the special assistance from DST, New Gen-IEDC (Govt. of India), in the form of grants to faculties and students start-up. The Department is also accorded the prestigious “STAR Status” under the ‘Star College Scheme’ initiated by The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Other research activities in the Department are supported with minor/ major funds from UGC, New Gen IEDC and TNSCST.
