Department of Microbiology along with Production Unit and Entrepreneurship development cell (EDC) organised a Training Programme on “Mushroom Cultivation” on
15.02.2018 and 16.02.2018 for students of I B.Sc. and III B.Sc. Microbiology and Microbiology with Nanotechnology. Dr. S. Rajendran, Coordinator of Unit of Rural Biotechnology, Department of Botany, Saraswathi Narayanan College of Arts and Science, Madurai gave the hands on training. He explained the students about the advantages of this type of cultivation, easy way of its practice, economical benefits and its nutrient values. He encouraged the students to start up an Entrepreneur enterprise. He also explained about the different funding agencies to start up the small business. He demonstrated the preparation of mushroom bed and he explained about the spawn and the optimum conditions to be maintained to avoid contamination. Then students were also instructed to prepare the mushroom bed. The demonstration was done in Mushroom Cultivation Shed in Herbal Garden and hence the students were highly benefitted from it. On the whole the Training Programme was highly informative and interesting. Many students were inspired by this and great Entrepreneurs can be expected.
Outcome of the event
The student acquired hands on training on mushroom cultivation. The students understood the medicinal values of mushroom and hence, many student showed interested to start mushroom cultivation in their home there by the employability skill has been developed
