The Department of Biosciences, Nehru Arts and Science College organized a two day International Conference CTAB-2019 on January 24th and 25th , 2019. On 24th January, the inauguration started with prayer song and welcome address by Ms D. Tamil selvi, Secretary CUBS, Nehru Arts and Science College. Dr. J. Rathinamala, Head, Department of Microbiology and Organizing Secretary – CTAB -2019 elaborated  on the glimpses of International Conference. Dr. Anirudhan, Principal, Nehru Arts and Science College presided over the function in which he enlightens the opportunities for the Biosciences stream outside the India and the lab facilities in the country like China and Singapore. The Inaugural address was given by Dr. Chen Zhong , Assistant Professor, Department of Natural Science and Science Education. Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.  He shared his experience about his research career and highlighted the worldwide research opportunities in Life Science. Dignitaries on the dias released the conference proceedings and further the special address was given by Prof. K. Sathyavelu Reddy, UGC-BSR- Faculty Fellow, SV University, Tirupati. He discussed about his research in Biomedical Field and gave an idea about various funding agencies. Dr. R Vijayaragavan, Dean Biosciences and Convenor, CTAB-2019 delivered the felicitation address and emphasized on the Importance of Biomedical Technology in medicinal field. Ms Sruthi Narayanan. Vice Chairman, AIMS, Nehru Arts and Science College proposed the vote of thanks. Participants from various colleges and students from our college actively took part in the poster presentation

            On the day One, The first technical session was handled by Dr. Chen Zhong, Assistant Professor, Dept of Natural Sciences and Science solutions, Nanyang Technology University , Singapore on the Identification of plant genes involved in the interaction with soil microbiome for health benefits. Dr. P.Mohandas, Director Research and Development and Head of Biochemistry was the rapporteur for the session. In the afternoon Prof. K. Sathyavelu Reddy, UGC-BSR- Faculty Fellow, SV University, Tirupati deliberated on Cardio protective role of ginger under alcohol induced myocardial infraction in rats. He elaborated on his research work to ignite and motivate the young minds towards the research. The session was chaired by Dr.Chen Zhong, and Dr. Nirmala, Dept of Biotechnology was the rapporteur for the session.

    The second day was Dr. Amit Sengupta, Director. Foundation for Ideation and Innovation in Medicine and Technology, Mumbai. He presented a lecture to sensitize young students and scientists on the need for translational research and emerging technologies such as data science, imaging science and modellings. He stressed on the importance of artificial intelligence in diagnosing several disease related disorders. Dr. A. Swarna Latha. HoD. Food Science and Nutrition was the rapporteur for the session, Dr. Anathasubramanyan, Professor and Head,Department of Biotechnology, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore on “Lab on a Chip” He gave us an insight on the application chip technology to diagnose various disorders. Dr. P. Mohandass. Director, Research and Development, Head, Department of Biochemistry
was the rapporteur for the session.

670 students including both the external and internal participants attended the conference. There were participants from various colleges in and around Tamilnadu and Kerala. There were 48 poster presentations to display their research findings and the first three best poster presentations were awarded with certificates. At the end, a positive note that the sessions by our technical experts and poster presentations will be an inspiration and an eye opener to the participants to explore the new trends in research in Biomedical
Sciences. 

Outcome of the event:

  Around 670 students have participated and benefited. They have gained the current trends implemented in the field of biomedical research and CRISPR Gene editing tools.
