Workshop on Java Programming

The Department of IT & CT organized a Workshop on “Java Programming” for II B.Sc. IT and CT students on 09.11.20 through Google Meet. Ms. K. Subhashri, Java Full Stack – Technical Trainer, NIIT, Nungambakkam, Chennai was the resource person. The program was followed by enlightening the students with the purpose and importance of Java programming language and also by hands on sessions on Java.

The resource person emphasized on how these programming languages differ from the other high level programming languages like C and C++. This comparative study helped students to get a clear idea about how the programming languages differ from each other. She narrated about the genesis of Java, different versions of java, Availability of toolkit, nature of work by JVM and JRE. She narrated the concept of Applet and demonstrated the concept of Applet and API applications using eclipse and Netbeans. The guest explained the career opportunities in Java and what is the company’s expectation as a Java developer. Finally, the session ended with Vote of thanks.

Outcome of the Event:

The session was informative and it helps to empower the student’s programming skills and knowledge. This workshop, designed for those who already know how to program, gave participants a basic background in Java programming in order to design and build simple Java programs. Participants gained a familiarity with standard Java references and the family of Java technologies and enough skill and confidence to undertake progressively more complex Java projects on their own. Students were trained to use the Java SDK environment to create, debug and run simple Java programs, be aware of the important topics and principles of software development and write better, more maintainable code and have gained the few ideas about the advanced Java topics like JDBC, Servlets and JSP.

Webinar on Career Towards Data Science

The Department of IT & CT organized a Webinar on “Career Towards Data Science” on 07.11.20 through Google Meet for IT & CT students. Dr. Gomathi. S, Teaching Consultant, UK International Qualification Ltd., Coimbatore was the resource person. The objective of the programme was to make the students to understand about the Data Science and its job opportunities. The resource person narrated about Data Science as an interdisciplinary field with real time examples say Amazon and Hotstar. She explained about the Data Science Careers like Demand and requirement, Work and Role option, Career Growth, Lack of Competition, and Variety of training, Skill Upgrading options and Cross Domain. She explained about Database knowledge, Statistics, Programming Tools, Data Wrangling, Machine Learning, Data Visualization and BigData. She narrated about the Programming Tools like R Programming, Python and SAS. She explained about how to get a Data Science job by providing tips like building Project Portfolio, Interview Questions and Tutorials, Participating in Datathons, Building a resume, and Availing internship opportunities. She explained about the role played by the Data Scientists, Statistician, Business Analyst and the skill set needed for landing in a right position. Overall the session was informative.

Outcome of the Event:

The session was informative and it helps to empower the students with skills and knowledge in the area of Data Science. It helps to mould the student’s career in Data Science as Data Engineer, Data Architect, Data and Analytics Manager, Business Analyst, Statistician, and Data Scientist.
