08-May-2020: International Webinar On Personality Development And Interview Skills

The Department of Costume Design and Fashion has organised an International Webinar on “Personality Development and Interview Skills” on 08.05.2020. More than 200 Participants (including staffs and students of NASC and various other colleges) participated. Ms.Reshnu S Nathan, HR Manager, Al Bawaba Contracting & Real Estate Investments, Qatar acted as the Resource person. Dr. P. Krishnakumar, CEO & Secretary and Dr. B. Anirudhan, Principal gave Presidential and Inaugural address. Dr.S.Jayapriya, Head, CDF, welcomed the Participants. Ms.C.Anisha, Asst.Prof., CDF, gave a vote of Thanks.

The webinar torched on the important aspects of Carrier Development which included Personality Development and Interview Skills. The skills and tips shared were based on the resource person’s professional experience dealing with different personalities around the world. she was able to provide a resourceful insight about how to mould oneself into a winning personality and develop an overall approach in life. She also emphasized on building once self-confidence, enhancing self-esteem and improving overall personality to the participants.

Outcome

The participants gained insights on Personality Development, Interview Skills and shall develop an understanding of and practice personal and professional responsibility, commitment to continuing personal reflection and reassessment. It helps gain confidence, self-esteem, positive impact on one’s communication skills and the way one sees the world.

Yatraz 2020 – Intracollegiate Symposium

 The Department of Costume Design and Fashion has organised Intracollegiate Symposium -“Yatraz 2020” on 27.02.2020. All the students of I, II and III B. Sc. CDF actively participated and they showcased their talent in wall painting and decorations. Dr. B. Anirudhan, Principal, Nehru Arts and Science college, inaugurated the function. Students were motivated to put their own stalls like mehandi, tattooing, cookies, decorative items which gave a room to develop their Self Confidence and Entrepreneurship. Various contests like Treasure hunt, PUBG, Check your Ability, Poster Making and Spell Bee were held for other department students and top three winners were awarded with cash prize (Rs.300/-, Rs.200/- and Rs.100/-) and certificates.

Extension Activity In Workshop

 The Department of Costume Design and Fashion has organized an Extension Activity in Workshop on “HAND EMBROIDERY” for 8th Standard students of Siwalik Matric Higher Secondary School, Sakthimill, Pollachi on 14.02.2020. Our Faculty D. Surya Prabha (Assistant Professor) and II CDF Students A.Vishnupriya, SwethaDharshini, Mercy (3 Students) taught school students about the hand embroidery stitches, chain stitch, stem stitch, bullion knot stitch, fly stitch, fishbone stitch, blanket stitch and satin stitch, wheater stitch. Students applied the taught designs in their handkerchief. The students felt that the workshop was very helpful.

Guest Lecture – Recent Trends In Textile Finishing

 The Department of Costume Design & Fashion has organized a Guest Lecture on “Recent Trends in Textile Finishing” on 27.01.2020. He elaborated on advance finishing techniques including water repellency, soil release, easy-care or wash & wear, etc. The Resource Person was Dr.M. Parthiban, Assistant Professor (SG), Department of Fashion Technology, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. This lecture presented a general idea of a number of of the superior functional finishes which used in textile for developing & improving functional properties of fabric as well as improve appearance, performance, handle, comfort, etc. He also added that the traditional image of textile as a low tech product is fast changing with the advent of textiles specially developed for high-performance functions. 51 students of II and III B. Sc. CDF students participated in the Guest Lecture.

Outcome of the event

The outcome of the Guest Lecture is to make students get a basic idea on upcoming trends and textiles are doing, more functions in addition to their primary functions such providing flame retardancy, water repellency, soil release, easy-care or wash & wear, anti-pilling.

 

Educational Tour And Industrial Visit

 Educational Tour and Industrial Visit to Coorg, Belur, Chikmangalore from 29.12.2019 – 03.01.2020 for 5 Days. Ms. D. Suya Prabha & Mr. N.Manikandan accompanied the III B.Sc (CDF) students. On the first day of Industrial Visit, students visited Kauvey Silk and Craft Emporium at Coorg. They gained knowledge on various steps in manufacturing silk. Then they visited bazzar, where they gained knowledge about visual merchandizing. On next day crocheted woollen accessories shop was visited. The Third day was spent at chickmangalore by seeing site scenes on the fourth day students visted to U.S Mallaya gate where they learned about export and import of dyes and chemicals. Students also learned about required documentation for export and import,process and procedure should be done before export and import.

Outcome of the event

Students gained knowledge on importance of textile and clothing Industry in the Indian economy and Visit to textile processing unit. Apart from that various culture and traditions of places have been inculcated in form of knowledge.

Skill Development Workshop

 EDC of Nehru arts and Science College and Department of Costume Design and Fashion has organized one day Skill Development workshop on “Doll Dress Making” on 30.01.2020 for Students of III B. Sc., CDF (46 Students). Mr.Saravanan, Trainer, Dream Zone Chennai, served as a Resource Person. He instruct of the students to select the quality dolls and requirement of materials for making dress and drafting the pattern and garment making. He also added on doll costume selection for the very best in unique or custom, handmade pieces from our doll clothing to improve their skill. He motivated to participate to Asian level dress contest.
